Packed and Ready To Go: Sunday, November 08, 2009
Tomorrow morning I’m back off to Boston for another round of treatments. I’m sorry to report that I’ve picked up, what I think is a slight cold (hopefully nothing worse), somewhere along the way and now I’m not sure what’ll happen at treatment. Initially, they gave a stern warning not to catch a cold, the flu or anything like that, and there’s a good reason for it … it works like this.
If you miss a treatment, you miss a treatment. There is no making it up at the end of the class!, there can’t be for the simple reason that the waiting line, to “get time”, on the proton maker is highly valuable. You can’t take someone else’s time, besides, you don’t have the right to it.
Only “x” amount of people per day can get treated and if you miss your turn … well, that’s too bad. You get assigned a number of treatments, over a number of days, and it’s your responsibility to be there and be healthy. The staff doesn’t even want you near them, because there’s a good chance that they’ll pass it to the next cancer patient, and so on down the line it goes.
I mean, how would I feel if they came to me and said “we decided to treat Joe Schmoe instead of you today because he was sick a few weeks ago, so ah … you have to miss a few of your life saving treatments”. Can’t do that, every delay in the schedule, puts someone’s treatment and there-fore life, in jeopardy. So the rule is set … you miss a treatment, you miss your own treatment.
Other then that, I’ve had a reasonably productive weekend, got some work done, both for my job, and around the house. We are now 90% winterized for the season!
I expect this week to go smoothly (as long as the cold doesn’t mess things up) at treatment and to have a little extra time writing.
