Better Then Bored: Friday, January 08, 2010
It’s been busy at work (which could be an entire post or story by itself) with all kinds of snafus to boot, as well as with Scifillian, the radio stuff and trying to get over the holidays … all around, it’s been a very busy time. We’ve started to plan out several big projects with our small department and it’s going to be busy for awhile.
Which in reality is a good thing … better then being bored
. Besides, I’ll probably get the chance to set-up a brand new Windows Server 2008 … which should be fun! Hopefully, I’ll be setting one of these up for Scifillian too shortly … I’ve had several clients ask to be hosted on them and I’ve been waiting for the price to come down a bit before I commit to it.
I saw David L. today, for the first time in awhile, and as always it was a pleasure. We had a chance to talk while driving back from White River Junction this evening. David’s always good for an interesting discussion on just about any topic you can come up with.
So, I’ve worked an entire week straight through, did the radio show, ran Scifillian and although I’ve done it all, I’m glad to see the weekend arrive. That doesn’t mean work stops, but it does mean I can move at a slower more relaxed pace then during the week and do it from home.
This weekend I hope to get the time to write a post for “The View From Here”. I have quite a few planned writings but I have to find the peace and quiet to write them … and that’s not always so easy to do … even at home! This week I barely had time to to fill in my Health Journal.
It was Blue’s birthday January 4th and she wanted the Wii Fit Plus software. It arrived today, but I didn’t have the chance to set it up yet … besides, she may want to wait till we have an actual Birthday Party for her. Whenever the kids are back around and I’m not sure when that might be. We’ll see how long she can last without opening and setting it up!
One of my next home projects is to set-up network storage here at the house so that I can load all the music for our radio work, all the digital photos, and all the movies and stuff on to the network. The purpose for this is to make it all accessible to anyone in the house, at anytime. Sounds simple … but it’s a big project to organize and categorize all that kind of stuff. Especially the music, besides having thousands of sounds in my system they all need to be setup so that others can find and play them … and that can be a challenge!
With the price of terabyte drives coming down to slightly over a hundred dollars, who can resist. My plan is to get two of these drives, one for the digital media and one for backing up all the pc’s and laptops. It’ll take me an entire weekend and probably longer, but it’ll be worth it when finished.
Also on the agenda is to start throwing out some of the old useless junk I have around the house (for winter) and barns (this Spring). Even if I can get rid of one or two small items a day for a start, I’ll be happy. Stuff just piles up! I have everything from iPods to coffee pots I want to get rid of! Maybe it’s a Vermonters thing to do … but some how things just never get thrown away … and now they’re about to.
Well, I guess that’s it for today … I hope you all have a great weekend and if you live in the north country … stay warm!
