Getting worn out in the material world: Sunday, March 07, 2010
It’s been a while since I’ve written anything interesting for the blog and so I thought tonight I’d write about something that’s been bothering me for some time, but I haven’t been able to put it in a reasonable perspective for writing. It’s about the desire to “want” and it’s apparent lack of diminishment, even when things aren’t all you could hope for.
One of the interesting things about approaching or seeing death in advance, is that you never seem to know, exactly how you’re going to interpret something. Maybe I should say something like “my interpretation skills have changed or have been effected by the early admonishment of my situation”. Maybe it’s the way we go about interpreting a situation at all that needs to be considered. I’m not really sure, but I am sure, that I never expected to encounter some of the things I’m experiencing.
The desire to” want” and “want more”, hasn’t seemed to diminish much. This is something I personally find both frustrating and fascinating at the same time. How could the desire to “want”, be so strong, at a time when needs and desires should be collapsing around me like the walls of a sand castle as the tide comes washing in?
First off, to define the term “approaching death” which may be a strong term to use here, when in fact we are all, always, approaching death in a sense. I’ll assume that you’ve been reading my blog for awhile and understand the situation. I’m not going to die this coming week, but I am approaching it slowly, and maybe differently then a lot of folks will have the chance to experience it. Like I’ve said before in the blog, I don’t know if that’s a blessing or curse, but it is what it is, and that’s the reality of it.
So understand where I’m coming from and maybe you’ll see it clearer by the time you finish reading this.
We all have the desire to want. We “want” for ourselves, our family, our friends, others around us, and if you’re like me, sometimes we want for the whole country, or the whole world for that matter. I can think of many a thing that I could want for the world, … couldn’t you? Food for example … wouldn’t it be wonderful if we (as in the whole of man-kind), put all our effort into feeding the world? Wouldn’t that be great! No more hungry people on the planet … who could ask for more?
