Your Call May Be Monitored For Quality Assurance
Tuesday, September 15, 2009:
An excerpt from a from a frustrating phone call I made today.
Bob:
“the person I had on the phone yesterday told me I could ask for my case to be expedited quickly”.
VT-BC/BS Rep:
“is this a matter of life and death?”
Bob:
“for me it is, … it’s been two weeks and I can’t even allow my health advocate and lifelong mate to be able to speak for me. I have cancer and I’m trying to arrange treatments in a reasonably timely manner. Everyday you folks delay in your decision making, I get sicker.”
VT-BC/BS Rep:
“but it has to be a matter of life and death before we can move things along any faster”
Bob:
“would you define a ‘life and death’ situation to me?”
VT-BC/BS Rep:
“are you lying on the sidewalk bleeding to death?”.
Bob:
“do you really think if I were lying on the sidewalk bleeding to death, that I’d take the time to call you?”
VT-BC/BS Rep:
“is there anything else I can help you with today sir?”
Bob:
“no, you’ve explained enough”.

I am absolutely speechless on how the above call went. I hope all future correspondences to BC/BS are not this disturbing. Perhaps the future calls will be handled by someone who has more knowledge and expertise with their position, because the above shows the incompetence of of the employee. And I sure hope it was just on the behalf of the employee and Does NOT represent the endorsement of BC/BS. I hope today’s calls will be much more favorable!
Also, Bob, I would like to thank you for sharing this blog with everyone here. It means a lot to those that care and love you to have an update on things. Plus I just love the way you have with words! Ciao for now!
I recieved this as an email:
please call VT-BC/BS again tomorrow and speak with someone else.. you simply can’t have the same experience again. you hit a bitch having a bad day.. try again.

Absolutely unbelievable! Insurance companies are all too eager to take your premiums (and they LOVE to promise you everything) but when push comes to shove, they don’t give a damn about you. THEY set the rules and you can bet those rules can be twisted any way they need them to be. The idiot you spoke with needs a serious lesson in humanity and compassion but I’m sure that’s asking too much. God Bless You, my friend.
Here’s another comment received via email:
Just can’t believe that person at BC/BS
I hope someday that individual gets to experience first hand the frustration and anger of dealing with a person such as themselves!

Hi dear Bobby!
I am so very sorry and upset to read about how your Insurance Company is treating you! Unbelievable!
We get many news these days on TV about how people in the US have been protesting about Medical Health reforms. Especially they say they don´t want to become socialists like the Europeans. To start with I don´t know where in Europe they´d find socialists. Secondarlily, what´s so wrong about being a “socialist”? So hard to understand this.
I have gone through big surgeries and treatmens seven times in life and and the bill has of course been several millions of crowns, but I have not payed anything “myself….the taxes we pay make insurances for all of us, automatically.
